Biography

Alison McGauley is an author, teacher, and mom. She aims to create books with big heart for little readers.

Alison’s debut picture book is Kenzie’s Little Tree (March, 2025), illustrated by Emilie Leduc, and published by Orca Book Publishers.

As a person living with multiple chronic illnesses, Alison is passionate about writing stories that speak to children and caregivers who are impacted by illness or disability.

After earning a BAH in Psychology from the University of Guelph and a BEd from Western University, Alison began her teaching career in 2005. She earned her reading specialist certification and is currently a special education resource teacher.

Alison works on her writing craft through memberships with SCBWI, CANSCAIP, and the 12x12 Picture Book Challenge. She participates in learning opportunities such as courses, conferences, writing events, and critique groups.

When she’s not teaching, reading, writing, or networking about chronic illness, Alison enjoys family adventures and being surrounded by trees in local forests and trails in the region of Waterloo, Ontario, where she resides with her partner, two daughters, and Ragdoll cat.
